The Roadway Inventory System Viewer (RIS Viewer) is a GIS web application for displaying data contained in the Roadway Inventory System (RIS) database. At this time the following data is available in this manner:

  • Federal Aid Eligible System (All Public Roadways)
  • State Highway, Posted Speed Limits
  • State Highway, Annual Average Daily Traffic Volumes

The first data type is “Federal Aid Eligibility” of all public roads. The other data elements include the Posted Speed Limit and AADT. “Clicking” on a road with the cursor will also bring up specific information for the road segment location. Only one (1) of the data types can be activated (viewed) at a time. The Application's print function provides a very good “screen dump” if 11”x17” paper is used in color print mode. The data available via the Roadway Inventory System Viewer is effective as of 12/31/2013 and is the same dataset used by the Department for its annual report to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

This Application is very similar in operation to the HDSB Functional Classification & National Highway System (FC/NHS) Viewer Application. The FC/NHS Application primary purpose is to address the federal requirement for functional class mapping, but also provides clear identification of the National Highway System in New York.

HINT: Dependent on a computer's processor the speed of loading data may be affected. When ZOOMING in or out on the Map allow the data to fully load (as indicated on the screen) before changing the Map view or loading different data.
