Capital District (Region1)

The people of Region 1 serve approximately 1 million customers residing in nine cities, 45 villages and 108 towns. Region 1 encompasses 6,580 square miles. The employees of this region maintain 5,300 highway lane-miles and 828 state bridges. The Capital District Transportation Committee and the Adirondack/Glens Falls Transportation Council are the two Metropolitan Planning Organizations within the region. Region 1 has seven publicly owned and 12 privately owned airports.

Mohawk Valley (Region 2)

Region 2, the Mohawk Valley Region, has a full-time staff of 620 to serve the approximate 480,000 people living in the six-county area that covers 6,146 square miles. The residents inhabit 8 cities, 53 villages, and 89 towns, traveling on 1,335 centerline miles of state highways, 482 state bridges, and 95 miles of Amtrak Line.

Central New York (Region 3)

Region 3 is in the heart of Central New York and includes six counties - Cayuga, Cortland, Onondaga, Oswego, Seneca and Tompkins. Region 3 has six cities, 49 villages and 97 towns, and is home to about 850,000 people. Region 3 is located at the crossroads of the Penn-Can Highway (I-81) and the New York State Thruway (I-90).

Western New York (Region 5)

Region 5's headquarters are located at 100 Seneca Street, Buffalo, NY 14203. Our region is comprised of four western New York counties: Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara.

Southern Tier/Central New York (Region 6)

Serving the counties of Allegany, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, and Yates within New York State's Central Southern Tier.

North Country (Region 7)

DOT's North Country region is the largest in the State, covering 8,643 square miles in a five-county area. The employees in Region 7 plan, design, construct, maintain, and administer the State Transportation System. The population of the region has increased to roughly 400,000 due to the military expansion at Fort Drum and the additional State prison population from 13 new correctional facilities in the five-county area.

Hudson Valley (Region 8)

Each county in Region 8 (the lower Hudson Valley region) touches New York's premiere waterway, the Hudson River. Designated one of the 14 Great American Rivers by the federal government, the Hudson carries ocean-going ships as well as a great number of commercial and recreational vessels. The Hudson Valley is known both for magnificent scenery and for a host of must-see sites for American history buffs.

Southern Tier (Region 9)

Region 9, with its headquarters in Binghamton, New York, covers 6,238 square miles (3rd in size among the 11 DOT Regions). It is part of the Central Leatherstocking Area to the northeast and extends into the Catskill Region to the southeast. Its entire southern border is shared with Pennsylvania where it cuts through the Endless Mountains and follows the scenic Delaware River to the Mongaup Valley. The Region is rich in Native American tradition as is evidenced by such place names as Susquehanna, Oquaga, Tioughnioga and Oneonta.

Long Island (Region 10)

There are more than 2.8 million people residing within the NYSDOT Region 10 Long Island area which encompasses Nassau and Suffolk Counties, 13 towns, 2 cities, 95 incorporated villages, and five Congressional, nine State Senatorial, 22 State Assembly, 19 Nassau County Legislative, and 18 Suffolk County Legislative districts. The approximately 1,000 DOT Region personnel are currently responsible for maintaining approxi mately 5,300 state highway lane miles and 546 bridges.

Region 11, the New York City Region, serves approximately 7.5 million people who live in a 308 square mile area comprised of the five boroughs - The Bronx (Bronx County), Staten Island (Richmond County), Brooklyn (Kings County), Manhattan (New York County), and Queens (Queens County).
