  • Better Than Before

New York State enjoys abundant resources and a rich history ... we can never let go of the past.

At the New York State Department of Transportation, we know the future is in our hands. It means joining with the community, doing things the right way ... pushing for changes to make things better.

Nothing is more important than the air we breathe or our precious wildlife. Some people might see these things as a problem ... but we at DOT see them as opportunities to help.

A connection to community, a sense of empowerment ... a belief that what's best is also what's right. It sets us far apart, knowing that the goal must always be to leave things better ... better than before.

People led by values. Whether you're in an office or out in the field, working with computers or cleaning up after a snowstorm, the same core principles guide all of our work. (5:43, 11.7 MB)

  • The Natural Corridor documentary (film trailer)

Millions of years ago, geological events shaped the history of New York State, and indeed the nation. Water and ice carved a path through what would otherwise be impassable terrain. This natural corridor determined the direction of not only eastern settlement and development, but westward expansion. New York's transportation history, from Native American trails to the Erie Canal, railroads and highways, is indelibly tied to this route.

The Natural Corridor tells this story from its earliest beginnings with a glimpse into the future.
