NYS Route 8 Bridge Over Route 5/12, Nighttime Demolition Work to Begin
Town of New Hartford, City of Utica, Oneida County

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Utica Regional Office in coordination with City of Utica has issued the following traveler advisory for motorists in the Town of New Hartford and the City of Utica, Oneida County:

On Monday, April 19, through Wednesday, April 21, 2021 demolition work on the Route 8 Bridge is scheduled to begin. “The demolition work will start nightly at 10:00PM and extend through 6:00AM the next morning”.

Due to the demolition work Routes 5/12 north and Southbound will be closed to through traffic at the interchange. In addition, the ramp from Route 840 eastbound to Route 5/8/12 northbound will also be closed to traffic during the demolition operation.

Signed detours will be utilized to advise motorists of the road closures and direct traffic to the appropriate detour routes. Variable message signs (V.M.S.) have been in operation notifying local motorists of the nighttime demolition work.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.  Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
