Coastal Erosion Hazard Management -
The Department of Environmental Conservation
(NYSDEC) implements the Coastal Erosion Hazard Areas program wherein it identifies coastal erosion hazard areas and establishes standards for the issuance of coastal erosion management permits to control certain activities and development in those areas.

Coastal Barrier Resources -
The Coastal Barrier Resources Act
(CBRA) prohibits spending federal funds on construction or purchase of any road, airport, boat landing facility, or other facility on, or bridge or causeway to, any Coastal Barrier Resources System
. Federal funds may be spent on the maintenance, replacement, reconstruction or repair, but not expansion, of any publicly owned or operated roads, structures or facilities that are essential links in a larger network or system.
